Would you like to know the simple secrets of a 112-year-old veteran on living a more satisfied and happier life?
If so, you gotta meet Mr. Overton.
Here’s why:
There’s a man of honor who fought in the war for his country from 1940 to 1945.
He has a lot of achievements for his service like a Bronze Star Medal, US Army Good Conduct Medal, and many more.
His name is Mr. Richard Overton. He lived a longer, healthier, more satisfied, and happier life for more than a century.
Not only did he live a good life, but before he died in 2018, he finally spilled the beans and his secrets on living a great life.
And, as per Mr. Richard Overton…
“If you don’t use these, it’s your bad luck”
You’ll be surprised how simple it is.
Here are his six secrets to living a better, happier, and longer life:
1) Buy One Thing And, If Works, Use It
Since his younger age, he used to buy things that are important to him. And, as long as it still works, he doesn’t buy a new one for it.
The reason for this is simple.
You’re exercising your discipline to be contented with what you have. And if this happens, you’d appreciate all the simple things you have in life…
As a result, you’ll be happier
It’s simple but only a handful of people are doing it.
2) He May Give Out But He Never Give Up
In the interview in National Geographic, he told a story about his life.
In his 100+ years of living, life is tough, and sometimes, he may feel down but he never gives up.
Because, according to him, that’s the sign that you started doubting yourself.
And when it happens, you may have anxiety, or something worse.
So, hin up, life may be tough, but don’t give up. You can do it.
3) Do What You Wanna Do
In one of his interviews, they asked him “Mr. Overton, What’s the secret of living a longer life?”
His response will surprise you. It’s so simple and overlooked by everyone.
“Do What You Wanna Do” he says.
The takeaway of his suggestion is simple…
As long as it’s legal and it makes you happy, do it and don’t live your life on someone else’s terms and rules.
4) Don’t Complain And Make Excuses
Mr. Overton lived and experienced difficult and most depressing times.
He experienced discrimination, and war, have seen a lot of killing, deaths, and lived in depressing times.
But, despite all that, he never complains and makes excuses.
He doesn’t care about what other people think of him.
He’d do whatever he wants as long as it satisfies him. And yet he’d still treat other people good and with respect.
5) Surround yourself with positive people
In his age and experiences, the one good way to live your life is to surround yourself with positive and genuine people.
That’s why in his interview, he always goes to church to meet and greet with other people.
And the other reason why is because, according to him, you can learn how to handle people from there and you can be more positive and happier.
6) Be Generous
In all of his interviews so far, this doesn’t take so much emphasis.
However, he believed that the reason and purpose of his long life were to help and make a positive impact on other people.
That’s probably why he always does interviews to talk about the secrets of living a longer, happier, and more satisfying life.
These six secrets he revealed are very simple.
For most people, these are no secrets anymore.
But only a few are doing these.
There are probably hundreds of more secrets however these six are the important ones and he always repeats.
And these six are enough to make us start.
We can start doing it to ourselves, we can start doing this with your family and we can start teaching it to our kids.
And that’s all there is to it.
Speaking of being generous…
